St. Joseph’s is now a Tobacco Free Campus!

November 20, 2008

As of Thursday, November 20th, both St. Joseph’s and Camden Clark hospitals are now Tobacco-Free campuses. No tobacco use will be permitted on either campus, including parking lots.

Hard copies of the policy and information that was emailed and MOXed out to all employees are available in Human Resources. You will find Q&A, the map of the campus and guidance on how the new tobacco free campus will be implemented.

The tobacco free policy applies to all employees, members of the SJH medical staff, volunteers, tenants, students, vendors, contractors, patients and visitors on the St. Joseph’s Hospital campus.

As a reminder:
1. Tobacco use is strictly prohibited in or on any property owned or leased by St. Joseph’s Hospital or its affiliates, including vehicles. Tobacco use is also prohibited in any vehicle which is parked in the hospital’s parking areas, regardless of vehicle ownership.

2. For the first few weeks of the transition to a tobacco-free campus, we will have nicotine gum available at the Information Desk during daytime hours and at the ED triage desk during off-hours. A maximum of two – 2mg pieces will be distributed to an individual upon request. The recipient will be required to sign a release form.

3. All employees, volunteers, and physicians have the responsibility to notice if any one is using tobacco on campus and approach them with courtesy to remind them not to smoke or chew on our premises. Feel free to use the Approach Cards that will be at the Information Desk or share with them that Nicotine gum is available at the Information Desk or the ED triage desk.

4. For employees: In addition to the cessation classes we have already provided, we will add additional classes over the next few months for interested staff. If you are interested in participating in a cessation class, please contact Human Resources at Ext. 4377 and provide your name. Any employee who finds it difficult to cope with the change in policy may receive counseling through the Employee Assistance Program by contacting Human Resources at 424-4377. You may also contact the WV Quit Line at 1-877-966-8784 for additional resources.
